Recommended Lease Clause for Rent Reporting
While federal law does not require tenant consent for landlords to report rent payments to credit bureaus, we recommend adding a rent reporting clause to your lease for transparency. You can copy the clause below and add it to your existing lease agreement.
CREDIT REPORTING DISCLOSURE: Landlord may report Tenant's rental payment history, including late payments, missed payments, and unpaid balances, to one or more consumer reporting agencies (credit bureaus), including but not limited to Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. This reporting may positively or negatively affect Tenant's credit score. If Tenant believes any reported information is inaccurate, Tenant may submit a dispute to Debtpin LLC at disputes@debtpin.com or by mail to PO Box 42177, Philadelphia, PA 19101. Landlord will investigate all disputes within 30 days as required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This reporting may continue after the termination of this Lease with respect to any outstanding balance owed by Tenant.
